I am so excited to announce our Associates of the Year for 2007. Sheila Ward is our Sales Coordinator and has been with the hotel since it opened 6 years ago. Her service to guests and teamwork is exceptional and we are so proud to have her on our team. Maria Aguilar is a room attendant and has done a fantastic job ensuring she has the cleanest rooms in the hotel. At our annual awards dinner, First Hospitality Group recognized Robert Cobb, Bell attendant, and Peter Suneson, Guest Service agent, for the Live Free/Drive free award. This award recognizes associates who have had a perfect attendance for the past year. The winner walks out the door with free rent or a free car for the whole year. Neither of our associates won but we all had a great time at the dinner.
Our award-winning staff looks forward to serving you during your next stay. Come see us soon!
There’s nothing better than a crisp cold day in downtown Chicago when the lights on Michigan Avenue are lit, the horse carriages are decorated with jingle bells and garland and the store fronts are decorated with holiday shopping specials. This winter season the City of Chicago has created numerous events to keep us active during these cold month. Just to name a few, The Museum of Modern Ice at Millenium Park
will celebrate the first Winter Festival with a large-scale public art and exhibit festival. The exhibit Paintings Below Zero is an exhibition consisting of an ice wall on Chase Promenade, just east of Cloud Gate, using 12 foot colored ice sheets. The McCormick Tribune Plaza and Ice Rink will also be part of the work of art.
The Magnificient Mile will celebrate the Lights Festival November 17. The schedule of events includes holiday street entertainment, carolers and Mickey Mouse as the master of ceremony to light the trees.
There’s also the Holiday Sports Festival, Jersey Boys at the LaSalle Bank Theatre, Curious George at the Chicago Children’s Museum on Navy Pier, and Maps, Finding our place in the world exhibit at Field Museum. I just wanted to share with all of our guests that Marriott recognized the Fairfield Inn and Suites in downtown Chicago with a 100% for guest room cleanliness and customer service award. I want to congratulate the housekeeping and front desk staff on a job well done and keep up the good work. To all of our guests we look forward to seeing you again in Chicago and hope all your expectations are exceeded when you stay with us!
Not only is Chicago a great city to visit in the summer and travel to for business but the events and entertainment that cater to the local crowd have improved. The Office of Special Events for the City of Chicago a couple years back started a Movies in the Park event every Tuesday night at sun down. Classics as well as recent films are showcased and speakers from the Gene Siskel Film Institute stop by to let the crowd know of future developments the city has planned. If you are staying with us on a Tuesday night, grab a blanket and head down to Grant Park, just a 15 minute walk from the hotel, to enjoy Movies in the Park with other Chicagoans and travelers. Young Frankenstein, a classic comedy with Gene Wilder, kicked off this year and The Sound of Music will be playing as the last film of the season. The full lineup is available to you at Metromix.com.
One of Chicago’s favorite past times is the Taste of Chicago down at Grant Park and surrounded by Millennium Park, Lake Shore Drive and Michigan Avenue. If you are looking for the best of Chicago ribs, hot wings, greek saganaki, you name it!, this is the perfect spot. I stopped by Bocino’s Pizza of Lincoln Park, Booth 8, for a taste of their raspberry blue ice which I highly recommend for all you Italian Ice lovers. Weather outlook is going to be hot for this fourth of July so bring plenty of bottled water. There is a white hen pantry two blocks away from the hotel, on St. Clair and Illinois which you can stop at on the way down. Let us know how your weekend in the city went for this year’s Taste of Chicago!!

Blue Man Group and the Chicago Children’s Museum have partnered up in a fantastic exhibit just down the street at Navy Pier. I attended the opening and the laughter and buzz in the audience consisting of grammar school kids was just incredible. The museum set up a stage and slowly “The Blue Men” crept out and started drumming on pipes, and colored drums. The exhibit is called Making Waves and your kids get to experience how to make sounds and noises with all the materials Blue Man Group uses in their show. Bring out the family and enjoy our Navy Pier Excursion package, that includes Museum admission and tickets to the IMAX.
