6 Free Activities at Chicago's Biggest Attractions

Most can agree: it’s nice to have a schedule an activity that doesn’t cost much and is wildly fun. Take that one step further—an activity that is completely free and can be experienced in the great city of Chicago—and we’ve hit the jackpot.

There are many free activities at Chicago’s largest attractions that tend to draw diverse crowds throughout the year. While Chicago boasts many exciting events year-round, there’s no doubt that summertime in Chicago is a true delight and allows the city to light up with tourists and locals, alike, who are out and about to enjoy the beautiful weather. Here are six free activities that the whole family will love and remember.

1. 360 Chicago Observation Deck

A true architectural beauty, this building offers some of the greatest views of the city and its historic lakefront. Atop the 94th floor, visitors can feel on top of the world, overlooking the city-at-large. On Monday nights, you can bring your tripods and snap pictures of city’s lights, while on Thursday you can take in the sunset with a few drinks and lively music. You can even find packages that offer discounts on tickets, as well as other amenities.

2. Head To Navy Pier

There are many free activities at Navy Pier that are family-fun. Summertime is the perfect season for late-night picnics and campouts, along with fireworks and entertainment, on a blanket in the warm, peaceful outdoors. On Wednesdays at 9:30pm and Saturdays at 10:15pm, through Labor Day, families can enjoy a firework show. Furthermore, you can enjoy complimentary entertainment on the Family Pavilion Stage or set up a picnic at Gateway Park, free of charge. If you’re okay spending a little cash, there are plenty of options to fill your day.

4. Head To Lincoln Park Zoo

Who says you’re ever too old to make funny faces at animals? Spending a day at Lincoln Park Zoo offers both excitement and education, as it allows you to feed your curiosity and take in different creatures and nature. There are also additional activities, such as sing-alongs, cow milking, and seal training and feeding that can be entertaining and interactive for children to enjoy.

5. Head To Millennium Park

There’s no shortage of free festivities at Millennium Park, especially in the summertime. From live performances, such as dance and opera, to its legendary Summer Music Series and Summer Workouts, there’s plenty of fun to be had and remembered with close family and friends.
