About John G. Shedd Aquarium
Located on the shores of Lake Michigan at the Grant Park Museum Complex at Lake Shore Drive and E. Roosevelt Road, the John G. Shedd Aquarium features animals and environments in exhibits from some of the world's richest ecosystems.
These include:
Caribbean coral reefs, where fish are fed by divers five times daily inside the 90,000 gallon aquarium
Pacific rocky coasts, where a 3 million gallon oceanarium is home to Beluga whales, sea otters, seals and Pacific white-sided dolphins
...and many more
Built in 1929 by the architects Graham, Anderson, Probst and White, the aquarium has a rich history spanning decades and is one of the oldest public aquariums in the world. The recent (1991) extension designed by Lohan Associates holds the oceanarium and features a beautiful view of Lake Michigan.
