6 Reasons To Plan A Trip To Chicago Now

Reasons to plan a trip to Chicago

We think it’s safe to say goodbye to snow (fingers crossed!) and hello to warm temperatures. If there’s one thing that all Chicagoans love, it’s warmth. Come 60 degrees, and we’re out in shorts and sundresses! There’s no better time to plan a trip to the Windy City than Spring, when the sun in out, spirits are lifted and fabulous festivals and farmers markets start to appear.

Here are 6 reasons to plan a trip to Chicago now.

Farmers Markets

Starting the first week in May, markets start popping up around the city, boasting fresh produce, local jams and tasty baked goods and cheese. With the beautiful weather and friendly grocers, it’s the perfect way to spend an afternoon. Visit The Daley Plaza Farmers Markets on Thursdays come May 12th, The Federal Plaza Farmers Market on Tuesdays come May 17th, and the legendary Green City Market Lincoln Park on Saturdays come May 7th. Happy munching!

Take In A Musical

The King and I (beginning April 29th), A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (beginning April 20th), and Little Shop of Horrors (beginning April 29th) are just a few of the fantastic musicals that are showing throughout the month of May. Enjoy a theater pre-fix menu pre-shower while dining al fresco in the glorious springtime warmth!

Spoil Mom This Mother’s Day

Plan a trip with Mom this Mother’s day weekend (May 6-8th) for a girls’ adventure in the big, Windy city. Check out Opentable’s list of top Chicago restaurants partaking in the festivities, and reserve a special, sweets-filled brunch she’ll never forget. Treat mom to a massage or spa date, a shopping spree, and unlimited hugs and kisses (we know she’ll like that!). For dinner, embark upon a dinner cruise from Navy Pier, in honor of Mother’s Day—with a complimentary glass of Champagne, of course.

Enjoy Springtime Sips

Plan a trip during May 19-29th for the 7th Annual Chicago Craft Beer Week. With 300+ venues, you’ll gain insight into the craft brewery business and appreciate discounted prices of rare beers and beer-focused events. Between starting with the “Beer Under Glass” event in Garfield Park, ending with a celebratory part at Welles Park, and all the haziness and taste-bud explosive-moments in between, this event is one to not miss. If beer isn’t your drink of choice, taste 80 wines at Lincoln Park Wine Festival and listen to live music from May 21-22nd. We’ll raise a glass to that!

Make Memorial Day Weekend Memorable

Take in the Memorial Day Parade on May 28th at 12pm, and experience Chicago’s greatest high-school marching bands, drum and bugle players, veteran pride, and duty military troops free of charge. For the rest of the day, choose one of the numerous festivals to visit. From the Belmont-Sheffield Music Fest, Wine Festival in Oak Park, and the Chicago Philharmonic & Cirque de la Symphonie in Millennium Park, there’s not a dull moment!

Ride It Out

Register for a bike on May 29th for an unforgettable ride along Lake Shore Drive that spans 15 miles. Chicago takes this opportunity to close off the drive from vehicles for the annual Bike The Drive event and to raise money for Active Transportation Alliance. Take in the views of Chicago’s skyline, enjoy the sunshine and start the summer off on a high note!
