Chicago is the perfect setting for family fun. Between shopping, sports, parks, and tours, there is plenty of action happening in the city. So, if you’re planning a trip to Chicago with the whole family, you’ll want to choose a few activities that are high in energy and can keep your kids entertained. Here are the best places to go with your family during your visit to Chicago.
Go to Navy Pier
Navy Pier is like a children’s playground, as it’s always high in lighthearted fun. Take a ride on the great, big Ferris wheel or visit any of the other amazing attractions at Navy Pier with the family. Your children will be on their feet, rushing from ride to ride. And, if it’s a rainy or chillier day, head to the movie theater for an indoor film or one of the several restaurants on the strip.
Spend Time on the Lakefront Trail
The Lakeshore trail is a great spot for a leisurely bike ride, jog, run, or round of frisbee. It’s a great nature path right in the heart of the city and it’s a perfect way to grab some scenic views and spend some time outdoors. You can also book a tour, like Bobby’s Bike Hike Tours, which includes a few stops at Chicago’s best restaurants, to keep your kids’ munchies at bay.
Go to Millennium Park
Right in the middle of downtown Chicago, you can spend some time in Millennium Park, where you can go for a nice walk, a bike ride, or a Segway tour to take in the whole space—as it’s really big! For kids especially, they will love to splash around in the Crown Fountain or head to Maggie Daley Park, where’s this an exciting playground.
Look at Sea Creatures
Kids are fascinated by the wonders of the deep sea, so give them the opportunity to follow their curiosity and learn more about marine life on our planet. Kids love animals, and they’ll be able to visit a few exhibits to watch them in action. The best part? At Shedd Aquarium, kids can learn about sea creatures and interact in the experiences through various lessons and workshops.
Eating is definitely an activity—one that kids love to do! And, Chicago is a spectacular city for dining experiences, where kids will get to try new foods, including signature items that Chicago is well known for. Take the kids to Portillo’s for a shake and dog, or one of Chicago’s many donut shops, like Firecakes, Stan’s, or Do-Rite Donuts, for a sweet treat to satisfy their cravings. And, don’t leave without trying Chicago’s signature popcorn and big ol’ pizza pie. Head to Garrett’s popcorn or Giordano’s for some traditional deep-dish pizza and the best blend of popcorn in the world.
Go to the Zoo
Beyond Shedd Aquarium, there’s also the Lincoln Park Zoo, where kids can observe different animals and get a taste of nature. The Lincoln Park Zoo offers a variety of exhibits to enjoy, as well as some amusement park style eats, like hot dogs and fries, as well as hand-dipped ice cream when in season. There’s also an Endangered Species Carousel and a Seal Pool for kids to play in, and if adults want some alone time, they can grab some cocktails on the Café Brauer patio.
