There’s no doubt about it: Millennium Park is one of the ultimate destinations in Chicago. Attracting visitors and locals, alike, it’s right in the heart of the city and offers an abundance of fun activities year-round. Plus, don’t forget—you need to snap a photo in front of the Bean! Here are 5 things to do at Millennium Park.
Walk Around Lurie Garden
If you’re looking to spend a few hours exploring an urban oasis, Lurie Garden in Millennium Park is your destination. The garden gives you a feel of nature and beauty right in the middle of the city. You can even sign up for a guided tour throughout the space or check out the calendar for events, such as book clubs, guest speakers, nature walks, family workshops, yoga, and more.
Listen to Music
There are many live performances at Millennium Park. In the winter, you can hear Christmas caroling and other holiday spirited performances, and in the summer, there’s the Millennium Park Music Series, which features a variety of live performances. From blues, jazz, DJ sets, and Latin music for genres, to orchestral concerts, it’s hard not to find a type of music you can enjoy. There’s also the Grant Park Musical festival, beginning June 13th.
Take in a Film
Beyond listening to live music, you can also watch your favorite films in the open air with a picnic basket and blanket. The Millennium Park Summer Film Series takes place on Tuesday evenings at 6:30pm, starting June 5th and ending August 21st this year. The genres range: all reflecting different aspects of Chicago history and appreciation of cinema. Plus, the viewing is incredible—40-foot LED screens and state-of-the-art technology for a viewing of a lifetime.
Hang Out At Crown Fountain
Crown Fountain is really special and unique, and it’s truly a work of art. Comprised of local faces, which spout water from their mouths, it is really fun to look at and see the changing faces on display. There are places to sit nearby, so you can relax and gaze upon it. And, if you’re with children, let them splash around in the water by the fountain—they’ll have lots of fun!
Have Some Fun at Maggie Daley Park
When the weather gets nice in spring and summer, it’s a great idea to head to Maggie Daley Park in Millennium Park and take advantage of the outdoor opportunities for kid-friendly activities.
You can roam around on roller blades or scooters, head to the playground, test your skills on the climbing wall, or play mini golf as a family. And, if you’re not interested in any of these games and excursions, you can always just take a walk, enjoying the natural beauty, or go for a leisurely bike ride.
