Where to Shop in Chicago This Holiday Season

Now that the holidays are upon us, it's time to think of some wonderful gifts for your friends and loved ones. There's no better city to go holiday shopping in than Chicago, which offers everything from major, high-end department stores to hidden gem boutiques.

Plus, the city is breathtaking during the holiday season-you'll see lights, hear holiday cheer, and score some major deals. (That's the best part, right?) Here are the best places to shop in Chicago for the holidays, in between those other exciting activities you can do during the season.

Magnificent Mile on Michigan Avenue

If you're looking for high-end, luxury items from designer stores, such as Burberry or Cartier, or gifts from big retailors, like Banana Republic, Nordstrom's or H&M, you can't go wrong with a stroll along Michigan Avenue.

The Magnificent Mile is known for its diverse selection and beautiful architecture, and there are several places to hop into to grab a bite to eat or a cocktail mid-shopping, too. There is a new food court with celebrity chefs at 990 N Michigan Avenue or you can try Michael Jordan's Steakhouse for a classy sit down meal, Chicago style. or After all that shopping, you're bound to get the munchies!

State Street

While there are big retailors on the Mag Mile, there's an abundance of popular stores along State Street for when you're doing holiday shopping with the family.

You can choose from sports apparel, toys, clothing, and gifts that are fit for the foodies in your life. You can also walk into Macy's, which is on State Street, for a big selection in a central location. Macy's on State Street is known for its Great Christmas Tree, you have to see it when you visit Chicago.

A tip? When you're there, head on into Magnolia's Bakery on the ground floor across the street for a delicious buttercream frosted cupcake or their signature banana pudding.

Boutiques in Gold Coast and Lincoln Square

If you're in the market for a unique gift that can't be found at Nordstrom's or a widespread retailor, set your eyes on the hidden goodies at boutique stores in various Chicago neighborhoods, like Gold Coast or Lincoln Square.

Gold Coast is especially great for those with a larger budget, where they're looking to spend a little bit more, as the area boasts high-end, luxury items, as well as several wedding and evening gown boutiques. Gold Coast also is the home of many famous restaurants like Gibson's Steakhouse you may have seen on TV or in movies.

Lincoln Square on the other hand is a bit more artsy and edgy-making it ideal for the creative types in your life. You can find trendy clothing, cool novels and crafts, and other quirky gifts in this fun, eclectic neighborhood.

Nothing screams holiday cheer like the Chistkindlmarket in Chicago, which goes on through the holiday season, from Nov 16-Dec 24. You can bring back gifts for friends and family, such as beer pint glasses, tree ornaments, specialty chocolates, and German goodies and souvenirs.

What's more, it's fun to browse the outdoor market yourself! Gather the kids or a group of friends and co-workers and enjoy hot ciders or cold beers with some bratwurst or potato pancakes. Yum!

Sports Apparel in Wrigleyville

For the die-hard sports fan in your life, you can head to the local apparel stores in Wrigley to grab some spirited gifts and souvenirs for your friends and family this holiday season. You can get bears or toys, jerseys of your favorite players, drinking glasses, hats, and more. It's appropriate for any age, too!
